Car is fixed for now!

September 9th, 2010 at 06:25 pm

Had AAA tow the car this AM to the shop and they got it in right away. $402.27 later the redid the front brakes, readjsuted the rear brakes and replaced the rack and pinion boot. Also the tranny was way low on fluid for some reason. Time to watch the tranny fluid closely to see if it is leaking from somewhere. Also got an estimate from the Tranny shop $1488.62 to rebuild the transmission and it would take 3 days. Atleast I don't have to come up with that money this week but may soon depending on what the car does. But then again it is cheaper then buying a new car as everything else is in pretty decent shape for a 1993 model year car in IA.

Nice!! Hopefully you won't have to see a $1500 repair bill in the future.

We put a new trans in our 1997 minivan back in 2005. It is still running today. And the minivan is starting to finally show its wear with some rust on the underside. We're in IL and you know how brutal the salt and snow can be.

I'm a big fan of reliable used cars (emphasis on RELIABLE). The savings in car payments and insurance usually lead to far more than the occasional and inevitable repair bills. If it is a decent car in good shape, I say keep driving it!
